About IAMR Life Science Department

Institute of Applied Medecines & Research (IAMR), Ghaziabad (Delhi NCR) is one of the best College in Delhi NCR for Biotechnology/Microbiology Program - B.Sc., M.Sc.

Life Sciences a frontline area of research and development with an overwhelming impact on man and society. It has a focus on basic research in Modern Biology and Biotechnology including Genomics, Proteomics, Transcriptomics, Bioinformatics, Plant and Animal Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Environment Sciences and Biodiversity, Biofuels products and process development leading to commercialization and application of Bio products. In essentiality it can be recognized as the new scientific endeavor and a powerful enabling technology that can revolutionize Agriculture, Health Care, Industrial Processing and Environmental Sustainability. Our goal at the department is to empower the students with the latest tools, techniques and awareness in Life Sciences by facilitating comprehensive learning, combining the scientific knowledge with technological and social aspects to become a meaningful human resource.

Research Activities

IAMR is devoted mainly to basic scientific investigations and research. The concept and technique of modern science have made it possible to focus much of its research at the cellular and molecular as well as in fermentation process in order to investigate the fundamental process of life. IAMR continues to be a pioneer in bringing diverse area together on common grounds and is unique in its commitment to interdisciplinary investigations.

Training

Well formulated training programs have been conducted and more are being organized during summer months. The objective of the program is to motivate students for research in Microbiology & Biotechnology. Another series of such course has been organized on “The live demonstration of techniques in Biotechnology & Microbiology for the students from senior secondary schools of the NCR region. The response has been encouraging. The students and the faculty visiting have had hands-on-practice on some of the technologies in the field and were delighted and were deeply motivated to witness the demonstrations of experiments.

Laboratory

Department of Biotechnology & Microbiology has a setup of specialized laboratories (with all modern amenities) viz. Molecular Biology, Genetics, Recombinant DNA & Genomics Labs, Plant Tissue Culture, Animal Tissue Culture, Enzymology and proteomics Lab, Bioinformatics and Data Analysis Lab. The Laboratories are equipped with all essential equipments viz- Autoclaves BOD incubators, High speed refrigerated centrifuges, deep freezers, high grade purity water producing units, laminar flows, high resolution microscopes (with documentation systems) Incubator Shakers, Fermenter, PCR Thermal Cycles, UV Visible Spectrophotometers, Tissue & Cell homogenizers, Trans illuminator with gel documentation system, Electrophoresis system, Colony counters etc., and many more high through-put-system are under procurement including RT-PCR Cross linkers HPLC system hybridization ovens electroporators, gene gun, sequences lypholizers etc.

B.Sc - Biotechnology, M.Sc. - Biotechnology

Biotechnology is one of the most revolutionary and beneficial scientific advances of the last quarter century. It is an interdisciplinary science including not only biology but also subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry and many more. It is a conglomeration of various combined technologies applied to living cells for production of a particular product or enhancing its quality according to our preferences. Biotech is undoubtedly the future. Genetics engineering, genomics, bio-computing, biomedical engineering, biosensors, bioinformatics, etc. will be the hot topics for the next decade or so. Its application varies from agriculture to industry - food, pharmaceutical, chemical, bio-products, textiles, medicine, nutrition, environmental conservation, animal sciences etc.

B.Sc - Microbiology, M.Sc. - Microbiology

Microbiology lays the foundation for all life sciences. This course exhaustively covers the food technology, drug industry, leather industry, breweries etc. The degree is designed to provide the necessary academic, practical, vocational knowledge and skills to enable the candidates to work effectively in a wide range of microbiological settings. The completion of the bachelors’ degree course in microbiology opens up multiple avenues for further studies. The undergraduate students are also eligible for masters in microbiology.

The course Microbiology has plenty of applications in the practical field. Thus, those who pursue a course in this trade are prone to get lots of job opportunities like research and development laboratories of government and private Scientific Labs, research organizations, pharmaceutical, food, beverage, chemical industries, hospitals, Microbiology labs, etc in India and abroad. Being closely related to biotechnology, there are many similarities between them, making microbiology also a very promising career option. A steep rise in employment avenues for microbiologists is envisaged as a result of growing numbers of organizations.
